HISTORY THE PETER AND PAUL FORTRESS
The Museum of St.Petersburg History Peter and Paul Fortress was founded by Peter I in 1703. Besides the ancient fortifications, on the grounds of the fortress one can visit the Sts Peter and Paul Cathedral of the early XVIII century (architect D.Trezzini) with the burial vault of Peter the Great and other Russian tsars, the museum in Trubetskoy bastion prison, expositions: "The History of St.Petersburg", "The History of the Imperial Mint", "Pechatnya" (Printing Workshop), museum on cosmonautics and missilery; excursion route "Panorama of the Neva" - over the roofs of the fortress' bastions and curtains. By booking beforehand, the collection of open furniture storage is available.

The monument to Peter The Great on Decembrists' Square, known as the "Bronze Horseman" after Pushkin's poem of the same name,
was erected in 1782 by the sculptor E.-M. Falconet.
The Summer gardens were laid out in 1704. On the Neva ide the gardens are enclosed by a grille executed to Yu. Velten's design in 1775-84. The marble sculptures kept in the gardens are by Italian masters of the early eighteen century.
Intended to serve as beacons in front of the Exchange, the columns were erected in 1810 by Th. de Thomon. The figures at their bases symbolize four Russian rivers.
The small island, called "New Holland" in Peter's rule, came into being after the digging of the Admiralty and Kriukov Canals.
Ranking among the world's three greatest museums, the Hermitage is housed in several buildings that are masterpieces of architecture. The meseum features superb collections of art form ancient times to the present day. The new exhibition gallery of jewellery is permanently on show.
St. Isaacs Cathedral.
The former main cathedral of the XIXth century (architect Monferrand). A world famous architectural monument. A beautiful panorama of the city unfolds before the eyes of those standing on the colonnade of the cathedral.
Founded by Petr the Great in 1703, the fertress is an architectural ensemble of fortifications, St.Peter and Paul's Cathedral and the Mint. The museum features the "Nevskaya Panorama" guided tour of the battlements, an observation platform with two telescopes, and several permanent exhibitions.
